Why clean your tyres?
Taking care of your tyres isn’t just a means to an end. Not only does regular cleaning make your tyres look good, but it also protects them against dirt and debris buildup. When dirt and debris build up on tyres, they become more prone to wear and tear, meaning they will need to be replaced sooner. Cleaning your car tyres is not difficult if you have the right tools and follow the correct method. Establishing good cleaning habits should be seen as forming part of any driver’s safety routine.
The car tyre is one of the most important parts of your vehicle, as they provide traction and support to your vehicle. To keep them in good condition, it is essential to clean them properly. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do this:
You should gather the necessary materials for cleaning your car tyres. This includes a bucket of warm water with soap mixed in it, an old cloth or sponge, and also a brush or tyre brush if possible and a power washer if possible.
1. First rinse off with a hose pipe or pressure washer to remove any surface dirt. You may also want to use a brush or sponge to help reach into the treads of the tyres.
2. Once you have removed any caked-on dirt, mix car shampoo with warm water. Softly scrub each tyre with a sponge or cloth, making sure that all parts are cleaned properly.
3. Scrub the car tyres with a stiff brush to get off any stubborn dirt and mud. Be careful not to scratch the rubber surface of your tyres. If you notice any marks that are hard to remove, use a mild cleaner specifically designed for car tyres. Make sure to take extra care when using harsher cleaners, as they can cause damage if used too vigorously.
4. Rinse the tyre off with clean water to remove any remaining soap and dirt residue. If your tyres have whitewall markings, use an old toothbrush and mild soap solution to clean them gently without damaging the white lettering or markings.
5. Dry off the tyres with a clean microfiber cloth. The cloth will help to remove any remaining water and soap residue on the tyre. You can also use a leaf blower to dry off the tyres to make sure you dry inside the treads.
6. Use a tyre shine product specially made for car tyres, such as Armor All or Meguiar’s Hot Shine Tyre Spray, to restore the shine of your tyres and keep them protected from UV damage and cracking due to age.
7. After buffing all of your tyres, you can then apply an appropriate tyre protectant or dressing for long-lasting protection. Keep in mind that tyre protectants can discolor some tyres, so make sure to read the instructions. Tyre dressing should be applied in a thin even layer and let dry before you drive your car.
