Goodyear’s ElectricDrive 2 – Latest Tyres for 2024 Electric Vehicles

Auto component makers are currently catching up to manufacturers of electric cars, which are already an integral element of the automotive industry. They have already fully increased their efforts towards developing components for electric vehicles. During the current Consumer Electronics Show (CES), global tyre manufacturer Goodyear presented the ElectricDrive 2, the most recent addition to their lineup of electric vehicle (EV) tyres.

About The Goodyear ElectricDrive 2

The American tyre maker claims that the ElectricDrive 2 has an aerodynamic sidewall that has the ability to reduce rolling resistance and helps to reduce the amount of drag that the tyre experiences. Moreover, the tyre maker asserts that these tyres are created using at least 50 percent sustainable materials, which include rice husk, soya bean oil, ash silica, and natural rubber that is sourced in an environmentally responsible manner.

Additionally, Goodyear has said that the tread compound has been improved to have a longer lifespan, which is a criterion that is significant for an electric vehicle-specific tyre. A guarantee that covered 60,000 miles (96,560 kilometres) was included with the initial version of these rubbers, which was referred to as the ElectricDrive GT. An organisation called Kelley Blue Book, situated in California and doing research on automobiles, claims that the average lifespan of electric vehicle tyres is between 30,000 and 40,000 miles (48,280 to 64,373 km).

Wet road performance and a quieter interior are two of the most important considerations that electric vehicle owners normally take into account when purchasing new tyres, according to research that was recently carried out by Goodyear on consumer electric vehicles. An asymmetric tread pattern was designed by the company to improve performance. This pattern helps to improve grip in both dry and wet road conditions. The tyre also has something that Goodyear refers to as SoundComfort Technology, which is a foam-based sound barrier that is incorporated into the rubber and helps reduce the amount of road noise that is transmitted into the cabin.

David Reese, Vice President of Product Development at Goodyear Americas, made the following statement in response to the event: “With the continued adoption of electric vehicles, we want to meet the needs of consumers and the market with an updated electric vehicle replacement tyre.” We are aware that electric vehicle owners place a higher priority on performance and a tyre that is more environmentally friendly. With an emphasis on offering more traction and keeping a quiet ride, the ElectricDrive 2 was built with at least 50 percent of its components being produced from sustainable materials.

EV-Specific Tyres And Their Significance

It is not widely known, but conventional tyres tend to wear out more quickly when installed on electric vehicles. Because electric cars are heavier than their internal combustion engine (ICE) equivalents, the tyre and the compounds that make up the tyre are subjected to more pressure. This results in increased friction on the surfaces of the roads, which in turn causes the compounds to wear out more quickly. Electric vehicle (EV) tyres, such as the ElectricDrive 2, are constructed from more rigid compounds, which tend to wear out more slowly. EVs provide an additional benefit, which is the increased range. These tyres are constructed with aerodynamic sidewalls, which have the effect of lowering the drag coefficient and, as a result, lowering the amount of energy required to push the vehicle.

On the other hand, electric vehicle (EV) tyres are often more expensive than other types of tyres, but they have the additional advantage of having a longer lifespan.

Availability Of Goodyear’s Latest ElectricDrive 2 Tyres

Beginning in the month of May, consumers in the United States will be able to purchase the all-season Goodyear ElectricDrive 2 tyres. According to Goodyear, it will be suitable for vehicles such as the Tesla Model 3, Y, and S, as well as the Chevrolet Bolt, Audi Q4 e-tron, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and a great number of other vehicles. It will be available in seventeen different sizes.
