Tindie Blog | Stylish Digital Pocket Watch

If you love the look of traditional pocket watches, but still want the flexibility and hackability of digital displays, then this digital pocket watch might be the perfect fit! It features a round 240×240 display which can handle up to 18-bit colour (RGB666), making it look vibrant and sharp. The display is 1.28″ in diameter, and fits nicely into the 3D-printed frame.

The watch is powered by an ESP32 which first boots up in hotspot mode, allowing you to connect to it with your phone and set the time. The case comes apart easily, giving you access to the ESP32 for reprogramming. The included software just displays the time and has a toggle switch to go into sleep mode, but if you’re experienced with the ESP32 you could easily add whatever features you wanted to really customize the look and feel!

A USB-C port is used for charging the internal 600mAh Li-Po battery. It can display the time for 5 hours, or last up to 2 days in sleep mode. With occasional usage to check the time, I’d imagine charging every other day would probably be fine. Because the case is easy to open, it might be possible to wedge in a bigger capacity battery, or download the STL files and print a new back half that has more room.

If you’ve ever wanted to play around with a digital pocket watch, this is a great choice. The same seller also carries a neat Binary Coded Decimal watch. This is also the same seller that created the Uncanny Eye pendant that we covered back near Halloween!
