The Game Boy is an amazing platform and it’s created so many interesting projects and indeed many Tindie products over the years. There are full music-making tracker applications like LSDJ, Midi Sync hardware adaptors, Wi-Fi printers for Game Boy cameras and more. It’s equally wonderful that people are still creating new game content for the platform. Cairn is a beautiful example of a new Game Boy game cartridge which has been created using GB studio.
Cairn is a platformer set in a vast temple. It’s an adventure game full of puzzles and it’s a brain teaser that should take you some time to explore and solve. You play the part of Amber, a young woman lost in the temple governed by three goddesses. There are collectable items in the game and many of these contain information and advice to help you understand the in-game lore and puzzles. The graphics are excellent, over on the product page there is a great video with lots of imagery from the game you should check out.
The game is supplied on a flashed cartridge and you’ll receive a game manual as well. There is also a demo of this game that you can access on the author’s itch.io site, or download the whole game to play in an emulator or on a flash cart. It’s fair to say though, nothing beats the feeling of a new Game Boy game title on a cartridge!
