Tindie Blog | An LED Box, For LEDs!

If you’ve been making electronics projects and designs for a while you’ve probably amassed a reasonable assortment of LEDs. From single colour through-hole to high power dazzlers to RGB faders and addressable Neopixels, we all end up with a huge selection! If you’re looking for a place to store your LED hoard you should definitely take a look at the Blinky LED Box kit.

This laser cut design creates a super cute character box called “Blinky”, and from the surface of the box, they appear to be a WS2812 RGB LED! If you’ve ever had a look at a WS2812 under magnification you’ll recognize the layout immediately. Once assembled, a red, green and blue LED are each placed in the correct position in the lid and the whole box becomes a large LED! The project is simple enough, with Alpenglow Industries giving clear instructions on how to make all the connections using simple non-soldered wires. It’s very beginner friendly although those able to solder might opt to make more robust connections. The box is assembled using some wood glue and has a neat magnetic latch system for the lid, and there is a very clear construction guide over on Hackaday.io.

With plenty of space inside for storage of a lot of LED components, we think this kit is great, and you get a cheerful, well-lit little desk buddy to boot!
